Loreen Releases New EP - "Nude"

Loreen Releases New EP - "Nude"

After failing to represent her country for a second time at the Eurovision Song Contest, Loreen was determined to not be beaten, swiftly returning to the studio to record her new 3 track EP "Nude", as a way of giving back to her fans for the support throughout her Melodifestivalen journey, as well as the continued patience as she prepares the release of her much anticipated album.

"Nude" has taken Loreen on a completely different musical direction, abandoning the heavy Eurobeat anthem like sounds, and instead taking a more alternative path, experimenting with heavy vocal effects, bolder bass and drum lines, and repetitive lyrics.

"Body" harks back to a 2013 "Heal" kind of style, showing fans that she is still the same artist who won back in 2012, however she has upped her game, showing a dirtier, grittier side to her artistry. "I'm In It With You" was a massive turning point in Loreen's musical style with fans (including myself) hating on Loreen's new style because of the success she had built up post Eurovision in the Europop genre being replaced by an edgy, experimental Loreen. In Body, Loreen has taken what fans loved about songs on the heal album, and updated for a fresher, more 2017 sound.

"Jungle" is almost like the anomaly in Loreen's vast portfolio, but not in a negative way. The prominent bass riff and offbeat chords show that Loreen is almost testing the waters, experimenting in a genre that is alien to her, something perfect for an EP release. This also marks the second collaboration on an album single, the first being with Blanks on the last track of "Heal".

"Oceans Away" makes early use of Loreen's iconic inaudible mumbling a constant issue throughout the EP, before making swift use of slightly dissonant tones and launching into a eerie drum and bass tune. Perhaps the most accessible lyrics, Loreen describes getting away from her past and going to an ocean far away, perhaps symbolising her getting away from her 2013 style.

All in all, "Nude" is a good little present before the November release of Loreens second studio album. For now, fans are left to speculate what tracks will be featured on the album, and whether they will be similar to tracks on "Nude" or whether Loreen will return to the Europop bangers her fans know and love.
