Most Shocking Moments of Eurovision 2017

Most Shocking Moments of Eurovision 2017

Olex flirting numerous times during the jury votes

Oleksandr tryed his hand at a bit of flirting, asking French spokesperson Élodie Gossuin for ER number after she said they would be welcome in France. Smooth.

Cyprus and Greece are booed for swapping 12 points

After years of historic voting similarities between the two countries, this isn't really surprising, although the reaction from the crowd came through loud and clear on TV, even though it wasn't really necessary.

"My Turn" is played instead of "Fly With Me" in the jury final

More humorous then shocking, but it shows a level of unprofessionalism amongst the organisation of the performances, as this was not the only technical problem throughout the contest.

Estonia experience sound problems

Unfortunately Estonia also suffered from technical issues during the semi final, where Laura's microphone failed to automatically switch on as it should have done, meaning the first few words of the song were barely audible. This must have made everyone on stage nervous, and ultimately, Estonia did not qualify.

Mel and Scott talking over the end of a number of songs (UK commentators)

It's honestly not that hard to just wait for the applause of the crowd to know when the song is over. Ireland and Croatia (I think) who had less predictable endings were cut off as Mel and Scott made throw away comments about the songs, ruining their endings.

Austria, Croatia, and Spain hit major bum notes

I know that these guys must be knackered after weeks of touring and singing, and that everyone makes mistakes, but these really did not live up to expectations on the big night.

Nathan fails to sustain his high note at 2:29, but credit to him for covering up the blip well.

It was then Croatia's Jacques' turn to try and nail those high notes at 2:25 which he did, although afterwards struggled to hit the vocal pitches, instead opting for the basses pitches. Not a huge problem, but it wasn't the same as the studio. Nevertheless, still a stunning performance.

The last bum note came from Spain, and it is one that will probably haunt Manel Navarro for the rest of his life. It's as if his vocal chords decided to imitate noises that should never leave the bedroom, and probably ensured that no one will ever do it for their lover ever again.

One could have tried to get back to the right pitch, instead of then continuing the high note a pitch higher then the studio version, but no, the universe decided that Spain was not going any higher then last place, which I guess can't be any fairer for a country who picked their act through corruption.

Seriously though, I am disappointed for Manel, as he is a good guy with a good song that due to the circumstances of his selection would have ended 26th if it had not been for the bum note, due to bitter fans.

Finland and Estonia fail to qualify

I have already expressed my shock at both of these countries not qualifying from the semis on my Semi Final 1 and Semi Final 2 reviews, but I've still not got over it, as even though they weren't my favourites, judging by fan reception and just overall song quality, I thought their qualifications were a given.

THOSE Kisses

Last night saw two countries show a bit of love on stage, as Belarusians Ksienija and Arciom of Naviband ended their folk number with a cheeky snog on top of their loveboat, which to be fair was quite cute. Unfortunately, when rapper Alex tried it on with yodeller Illinca who represented Romania, although what ended up happened wasn't exactly how Alex pictured it.

Awwww

She did not come alive inside the light of the unexpected..

The UK ends 15th in the grand final
It was absolute shock horror when the UK received just 12 measly points from the televote; most of which came from neighbours and fellow English speaking countries Ireland, Malta Australia, along with some cheeky points from Lucie Jones' best friend Manel's country Spain. After achieving a respectable 99 points from the juries this was quite an injustice to Lucie, who gave a stunning performance, and deserved at least top 10.

Latvia ends dead last in their semi final, and San Marino ends with 1 point.

How does this happen? How does "Line" score lower then "On My Way" and "Paper"? Latvia had been a favourite throughout the contest for many, they went on the promotional tour, they had personality and they had amazing staging....yet they come last??

I'm not as shocked that San Marino came last in their semi, but come on, the queen of San Marino deserves more then one puny point.

Jamala is the victim of an X rated stage invasion

Everything was going swimmingly until some guy decided t get on stage and show the world his pride and joy. Despite this, like the true professional she is, Jamala just kept on slaying, clearly unfazed by the a$$ just next door to her.

Sadly for her though, it appears as if full footage of the performance may be forever lost, as the official Eurovision YouTube channel have yet to upload her full performance from the night as they have for the rest of the acts, and perhaps never will...

Portugal win the Eurovision song contest 2017

After 53 years of participation, and not one top 5 placing, Portugal finally lifted the trophy with the ballad "Amar Pelos Dois" (Love For Two Of Us), taking the contest to Portugal for the first time ever.

I am absolutely overjoyed at this result, and will do a full review of "Amar Pelos Dois", along with a few other songs from the final.

I have loved following the contest, right from when the participants of Festivali i Këngës are announced in December, to the grand final, when after 6 months of waiting, we find out the winner.

What other shocking moments were there this year? how do they compare to the last year? Let me know!
